KUL chess players in Italy
The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin participated in the prestigious "Alma Mater University Chess Tournament" in Bologna, being the only university from Poland in an esteemed group of 18 university teams from around the world. The event took place from June 14-16, 2024, and included renowned institutions such as Yale University, the University of Bologna, and two teams from the University of Cambridge. The beautiful and historic Biblioteca Universitaria di Bologna, where the competition was held, further emphasized the significance of this event
The KUL team was composed of:
- Konrad Szczygieł, Team captain and player
- Aniela Piech, first-year Pedagogy student
- Kacper Bilczewski, fifth-year Law student
- Benjamin Kardis, second-year Psychology student
The representatives from KUL secured one win, two draws, and faced defeat in two matches, earning a total of 4 points, which placed them 14th in the overall standings.
For the participants, this tournament was not only a competitive challenge but also an opportunity to gain valuable experience, build new connections, and explore the charming city of Bologna, home to the oldest university in Europe.
