New Vice-Rector and Ambitious Plans for Collegium Medicum

The Collegium Medicum at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin receives significant backing. Professor Maciej Banach has taken on the Vice-Rector role in the Collegium Medicum, while Professor Michał Zembala has been tasked with advancing clinical sciences.
Starting September 1st, the Collegium Medicum has officially begun its operations at the Catholic University of Lublin. The decision to establish the Collegium was made by Rector Fr. Professor Mirosław Kalinowski on July 30th. The primary goals of creating the Collegium Medicum are to streamline the integration of medical and biotechnological sciences, develop new study programs, and advance research initiatives. This step is part of the broader development strategy of the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), which now also functions as a medical university.
Today, Rector Professor Mirosław Kalinowski announced the appointment of Professor Maciej Banach as the new Vice-Rector of the Collegium Medicum at the Catholic University of Lublin. Professor Banach will lead the institution's research efforts, including clinical studies, in his new role.
"The addition of Professor Maciej Banach to our leadership team marks a strategic move to strengthen the potential of our Collegium Medicum," stated Rector Kalinowski. "Our goal is to broaden our research horizons in medicine and biotechnology and to harness the power of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, to drive innovation and excellence."
Professor Maciej Banach, MD, PhD, is a distinguished member of several international scientific societies and has authored over 1,500 publications in top-tier scientific journals. He is recognized among the top 1 percent of the most cited researchers globally and ranks as the fourth most cited scientist in Poland in the field of medicine, according to Research.com. Expertscape also lists him among the world's top five leading experts in lipidology and preventive cardiology.
"At KUL, our potential is vast, driven not only by our cutting-edge laboratory equipment but, most importantly, by our distinguished academic staff. We are already at the forefront of numerous projects at the intersection of medicine and biotechnology. My objective is to cultivate this potential further and expand our research endeavors. I am profoundly grateful to the Rector for his trust," remarked Professor Maciej Banach upon his appointment as Vice-Rector for Collegium Medicum.
The new Vice-Rector is not the first medical scientist to join the Rector's team at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. On July 2nd, Professor Michał Zembala, a renowned cardiac surgeon and transplantologist, was appointed Vice-Rector for Clinical Sciences. He officially commenced his duties on September 1st.
"Under the leadership of Vice-Rector Professor Michał Zembala, we will systematically strengthen our clinical foundation. The objectives set for the Collegium Medicum and the medical field at KUL are indeed ambitious," concluded Rector Fr. Professor Mirosław Kalinowski.
