Prof. Dr. habil. Maciej Banach, M.D., Ph.

Prof. Maciej Banach, MD, is a renowned cardiologist and academic. He is a member of several international scientific societies and is the founder and president of the Polish Lipid Association (PoLA). He has more than 1,500 publications in top scientific journals. He is in the top 1 per cent of the world's most cited scientists and is the 4th most cited person in Poland in the field of medicine based on the Research.com ranking. According to Expertscape, he is among the world's top 5 most cited experts in lipidology and preventive cardiology.

He graduated from the Medical University of Łódź, where he passed through all levels of his scientific career obtaining the rank of associate professor in 2010. He is currently Head of the Department of Preventive Cardiology and Lipidology at the Medical University of Lodz, and collaborates with, among others, Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA. He received the title of full professor in 2014 and is also the recipient of 5 honorary doctorates.

2010-2012 he was Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and 2014-2021 Director of the Institute ‘Polish Mother's Health Centre’.
