The Department of Philosophical Anthropology and the Philosophy of Law develops scientific research in two complementary directions: Philosophical Anthropology as well as the Philosophy of Law and Human Rights, which have been of interest and have been present at the Faculty of Philosophy since its inception, although developed in various sections and departments.
In the domain of philosophical anthropology, research concerns the integral understanding of the human being, the concept of man as a person, the basics of transcendence of the human being, practical (moral) action, basic anthropological experience, as well as issues regarding the specificity of personal existence (esse personale) and its relations with the understanding of the human person. Consideration is given to particular personal acts, such as love or contemplation, the ontic structure of man, as well as the issue of threats to the integral understanding of the human person.
In the second domain, historical and philosophical research is developed to indicate the sources of contemporary interpretations of law, the philosophical foundations of human rights and law, and the civilization conditions of legal theory. There are also philosophical and critical studies on contemporary concepts in the Philosophy of Law. In addition to historical research, the Department conducts research on the systematic Philosophy of Human Rights and Law, which is based in the field of methodology and sources on philosophical (anthropological) cognition. Research on human rights is interdisciplinary and complementary to Philosophical Anthropology and Philosophy of Law.
The program of the Department is in accordance with the tasks of the Faculty of Philosophy, and the social need for such research as a response to student interest and the needs of rational evaluation of new social and legal phenomena. The problem of philosophical basis of human rights is a constant concern of international organizations and the Holy See.
