Rev. Piotr Wiśniewski, born in 1972 in Golub-Dobrzyń; musicologist, music historian; completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Academy of Catholic Theology in Warsaw in 1998 with a master's degree in theology. In 1999-2004 he studied at the Institute of Musicology of the Catholic University of Lublin, graduating with a Master's degree in musicology with honours on the basis of his thesis entitled ‘Śpiewy Mandatum w Graduałach Piotrkowskich z lat 1629-1651’, written under the supervision of Rev. Prof. Dr. hab. Ireneusz Pawlak. In the years 2004-2006 he completed doctoral studies in musicology (KUL) and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Humanities in the field of history-musicology (2006) on the basis of his doctoral dissertation entitled The rhymed Office of St. Sigismund in Płock antiphonaries from the turn of the 15th/16th century. A historical and musicological study, whose supervisor was Rev. Prof. Dr. Ireneusz Pawlak. In 2012 he obtained the degree of Doctor of Humanities in the field of history-musicology on the basis of the publication Śpiewy późnośredniowieczne w antfonarzach Płockich z XV/XVI wieku na podstawie responsoriów Matutinum. From 2007 to 2013, he worked at the Faculty of Historical and Social Sciences at UKSW in Warsaw, Theoretical and Applied Musicology, teaching first as a commissioned lecturer and then as an assistant professor and associate professor.
In 2014, he joined the Department of Religious Polyphony of the Institute of Musicology at the Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) as an assistant professor. Since 2015, he has been the head of the Department of Religious Polyphony of the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), renamed in 2021 as the Department of Research on Religious Monody and Polyphony. In 2017, he was appointed associate professor at KUL. In the 2017/18 academic year, he served as Director of the Institute of Musicology of the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL). 2019-24 he was Director of the Institute of Art Sciences at KUL and Coordinator of the discipline of Art Sciences at the Faculty of Humanities at KUL.
He belongs to national and international scientific associations: Association of Polish Church Musicians, Scientific Society of the Catholic University of Lublin, Scientific Society of Francis de Sales, Associazione Internazionale Studi di Canto Gregoriano (German-language section), Association of Polish Composers (Section of Musicologists) and Lublin Scientific Society.
