Comenius Summer Course in Dutch Language and Culture

A Summer Course in Dutch Language and Culture (Comenius Zomercursus Nederlandse Taal en Cultuur)  takes place at the KUL from 2 to 15 July 2023. The course is organised each year in a different European city offering the opportunity to undertake academic training in Dutch philology. It takes place under the auspices of the Comenius Association (Vereniging voor Neerlandistiek in Centraal-Europa/Central European Netherlands Association) and is funded by the Nederlandse Taalunie (Dutch Language Union), the Royal Netherlands Embassy and the Diplomatic Representation of the Government of Flanders.

The summer school is designed for forty Dutch language students from Central Europe. This year, the event is organised by lecturers from the Department of Dutch philology at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. The theme of this year's course is migration/multicultural society. We will be joined by students of Dutch philology from, among others, Olomouc, Brno, Prague, Wrocław, Poznan, Debrecen, Belgrade, Bucharest, Bratislava, Tbilisi, Kiev, Sofia, Zagreb, Ljubljana, and native-speaking teachers from Belgium and the Netherlands.

During their time off from classes and studying, we will introduce the incoming students to the history of multicultural Lublin, offering them the opportunity to explore the city and visit interesting places on the map of Lublin. We have planned, among other things, a visit to the NN theatre and the exhibition there, the Baobab Integration Centre, Majdanek, the Lublin Village Museum and a trip to Kazimierz Dolny. The programme also included a number of interesting activities, such as a dumpling-making workshop and a Dutch film evening.
